SCHOLARSHIPS

Purpose: Grant scholarships to qualified applicants in order of preference and need as follows:

  1. Sons and daughters of active Marines and members of the Naval Service who have served with the Marine Corps and who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
  2. Sons and daughters of active Marine Corps League and/or Auxiliary members.
  3. Sons and daughters of the Active/Reserve Marine Corps and Naval Service, serving with the Marine Corps.
  4. First generation grandchildren of Active and Reserve Marines, Associate and Auxiliary members of the Marine Corps League.
  5. Scholarships are intended for children/grandchildren 21 years and under.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Requirements to be considered for a scholarship grant:

  1. Applicant must complete the scholarship form and submit it to the Scholarship Committee, in a timely manner for review.
  2. Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s High School, College, or Military Command.
  3. An accompanying letter from the applicant with a brief history of the applicant and their future goals.
  4. Deadline for submission is sixty days prior to the first day of the month in which the semester begins.
  5. Proof of educational institution’s acceptance must be received before funds will be disbursed.
  6. Must carry a minimum of twelve hours, except for who are employed full time.

SCHOLARSHIP APPROVAL & FUNDING GUIDELINES

Limitation requirements:

  1. The approval and value of each scholarship shall be recommended by the Scholarship Committee subject to budget limitations and the availability of funds. All checks will be made payable to the educational institution. The name and address of the institution must be provided by the applicant.
  2. A limit of $1,000.00 per student/per year ($4,000.00 lifetime limit) is set.
  3. A limit of $12,000.00 per family (lifetime limit) is set.
  4. A active League member that attends League events for more than 5 years can have a higher Lifetime Limit Subject to Budget Limitations and the availability of Funds.
  5. Galveston County JROTC Units Can Give one student a Scholarship of $1,000.00 per Collage Semester up to $4,000.00 lifetime limit.
