SCHOLARSHIPS

Marine Corps League Detachment Galveston proudly offers scholarships based on both preference and financial need. Priority is given in the following order:

  • Active Duty Marines residing in Galveston County.
  • Honorably Discharged Marines residing in Galveston Country.
  • Active Duty and Honorably Discharged U.S. Navy Corpsmen who have served or are currently serving with the Marine Corps.
  • Spouses, children and grandchildren of the above listed Marines and Corpsmen.
  • Spouses, children and grandchildren of active members of the Marine Corps League, Associated Members, and Auxiliary Members of the Galveston County detachment.
  • Active members of the Marine Corps Reserve and Naval Reserve who are serving with the Marine Corps, along with their spouses, children and grandchildren and living within Galveston County, Texas.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for a scholarship grant applicants must meet the following criteria:

Completed Application
Submit a fully completed scholarship application form to the Scholarship Committee in a timely manner for review.

Letter of Recommendation
Provide a letter of recommendation from a high school or college official or from a military command.

Personal Statement
Include a brief letter outlining your background and future goals.

Submission Deadline
All application materials must be submitted no later than sixty (60) days prior to the first day of semester for which the scholarship is being requested.

Proof of Enrollment
Confirmation of acceptance from an accredited educational institution must be provided before any scholarship funds are released.

Enrollment Requirement
Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours, unless they are active duty or Reserve Marines employed full time.

SCHOLARSHIP APPROVAL & FUNDING GUIDELINES

Scholarship awards and amounts are determined by the Scholarship Committee and are subject to available funds and budget limitations.

All Scholarship payments will be made directly to the educational institution. Applicants must provide the institution’s name and mailing address.

Funding limits as follows:

  • Up to $1000 per student, per semester
  • Up to $4,000 per student over the course of their academic tenure
  • Up to $12,000 per family in total assistance
